personally I like their mix CD's in the early volumes. After all, it IS Blank & Jones, not a lame rush job done by some junior mixer commissioned by a big record company! It can be a lifesaver at a gig, radio show, or club when you have to take a restroom break, deal with a pushy manager or client's issue, or in case there is some emergency or crowd disruption involving personal safety. Or it's early and your club is dead and you don't feel like playing to the bartenders. However, with vol. 9 we get an entire extra disc of rarities the earlier sets didn't offer. What's a girl to do?
Phobism
Tears For Fears track looks to be the ubiquitous US Remix yet again. Sigh!

The version on the So80s compilation has an extra four bars at the 20-second mark, and also a longer outro.

It is not the US Remix which appears, for example, on Disc 2 of Songs From The Big Chair: Deluxe Edition. It is a longer version of the Extended Remixed Version on the original 12" singles.

The Version of Shout on the MFSL CD is correct @ 8.17. I heard it on Youtube several months ago, before deciding to try to source and buy the CD; which actually put me off... The end of the track breaks down to an abrupt cold finish as if the producer just gave up and cut the recording off prematurely. This is probably why Blank & Jones edited and faded it back to 8 minutes.
Wat!?
This has to be corrected. It is NOT the US Remix. It is a longer Version of the UK Extended Mix which continues at the end of the track, otherwise identical to the known 12" as far as I could hear. The Version on the MFSL CD is claimed to run 8:17, don't know if this is info is incorrect or if this one is even longer than found here...

I have got this compilation, and the Tears For Fears track is not the US Remix, which I do have in abundance on many other compilations. It is actually the UK 12" Single Version with an extra 20 or so seconds on it, possibly from the original Master Copy before the 12" release was edited down back in the 80's.

I have about 20 thousand 70s and 80s disco/soul/funk/synthpop/new wave tracks and I was happy to find more than a couple of 12 inches I did not yet have in cd quality (only vinylrips). I also like the fact this time we get 3 UNMIXED cd's - what is the point of mixing the tracks as they did in earlier volumes, when original 80s mixes abound?Anyway, I hope this series will continue for a long time! Just as Dance Classics of Rodeo Media and the Grand 12 Inches, a great way to get rare 12 inches in good quality!
