Awful sounding pressing. The highs are harsh and distorted and the lows lack depth. The overall sound is grainy and fatiguing
I have both the early repress mastered by Kevin Gray and this one and the KG repress is richer and with more texture. The bells ring out more and Sufjan draws me in more. This pressing isn't bad, though it's way more poppy than my first pressing and I cleaned both with an ultrasonic cleaner.
Anyone else having problems with the side 2 label overlapping the runout groove? I bought two at my local record shop and on both the runout groove dipped into the label.
My pressing was pretty good, no major complaints, only real thing was that it took a bit of a twisting and easing to get both LPs onto the spindle, particularly the second one, but honestly, problems with labels overlapping the runout groove and too-small spindle holes seem to be legion in modern pressing runs. I only own a few examples of the latter but I have also seen the former - sometimes, like with Bowie's recent 12''s and 7''s there's the window through which you can even see things like off-centre labels and so on.
Just emailed them regarding off-centered issue... Did you have to send back the disc ? I ask because i already enlarged the center hole to be able to place it correctly.
I had the same issue - I emailed AK about it - and they sent me a replacement vinyl.
Same problem here but I've found it plays fine if I force it on to the spindle a little bit. Not ideal though!
Yeah same problem for me too! Too bad, because it was a really cool reissue!
No problem with the label but the 2 discs are completely off-centered... My needle is shaking left to right.... Apparently pressing quality is really bad with this version.
how does this pressing sound? my copy of earlier one sounds terrible :/
Hello, AK emailed me 2 new discs for free, pretty cool... But.... Disc 1 is again offcentered ! Haven't played disc 2 yet, will need to clean it first !
My sides A and B were OK, the worst was just a bit of crackle and pop on the very first track and the start of Casimir Pulaski Day, what about you?
Did you end up getting another copy? Any improvement over the last one?
AKR was great and emailed back. Said they've been getting complaints regarding Disc 1 so sending a new one my way. Not sure when though.
Disc 1 sounds terrible. Lots of static that has to be from the pressing, especially considering how fantastic Disc 2 sounds. I emailed Asthmatic Kitty about it...waiting for a reply.
Just got it today, i think it sounds great. Overall very satisfied with this release.
Do all copies come with the star shaped Chicago demo?
Mine came with two of the star shaped demos, both identical.
Yes, all copies include it. There is a misspressed version of the star shaped 7'' sold separately!
I bought mine at my local record store and did include the Chicago 7"!
yes all copies included it, Asthmatic Kitty confirmed it when I asked them
I purchased mine in Australia yesterday and it was included, so I think they all do. It's placed in the centre sleeve of the triple-gatefold packaging.
Oh, is it only "limited" to 10 000? ... LOL.
